Mumma's Marvellous Medicine for Hair

"The way forward to natural beauty"

  • Sun, Sea and Hair Protection!

Hello once again Natural Ladies and Curly Girls.

Its been a while, but I've been away in Sardinia for some much needed rest and relaxation and have come up with a few more ideas for my hair, and hopefully yours too.

Seriously though, what do you do with your hair when the sun and sea are busy replenishing your skin, making it look sun kissed, clearing it up, restoring your vit D supplies and generally working miracles -But wreaking absolute havoc with your hair?!!

Well luckily I took along some research with me in the form of "Curly Girl - The handbook" by Lorraine Massey.

Now to say I was skeptical is an understatement - what could this blond caucasian woman with her long tresses possibly tell me about my afro hair? well, A LOT actually! yeah, I was suprised too!!

On the subject of hair care in the sun she had a very useful and simple tip - pour oil onto your hands, and spread over the top layer of your hair in a downward motion - almost like you are trying to slick it back off your face - then secure in a bun/plait, whatever suits you really. She also recommended if you use a swimming cap to spray the lining with oil and then place it on your head. So simple, but I found it to be very effective.

Luckily I had some of my scalp oil with me, which I used exactly for this purpose every time I went for a swim in the sea - I think that it works in much the same way as ducks use to keep themselves dry - providing a layer of oil to keep water out - and hey presto my hair didnt feel all dried out and crusty after swimming and I it loved the extra oiling it received as I went swimming pretty much every other day.

Give it a try, I think you will be suitably impressed.

    xx
